My love for clean products runs deep because I believe it is our responsibility to take care of our health.
Here, let me tell you why.
In my mid-twenties, I was diagnosed with an autoimmune thyroid disease called Hashimoto’s. Basically it means that my body is slowly attacking its own healthy tissue and will oscillate between between hyper and hypo thyroidism on its way to full destruction of the thyroid. I’m so sensitive to these swings that I could wake up exhausted after 10-12 hours of sleep for weeks in a row and then on other weeks, I have so much energy that I experience the physical sensations of anxiety, basically on the brink of a panic attack.
There’s no medical cure for the disease so upon diagnosis, my general medicine doctor prescribed me with a daily medication and frequent blood work to monitor the symptoms and prognosis. However, managing the symptoms does not prevent further destruction to the thyroid so this approach never fully made sense to me. I wanted to know the root cause of the condition and learn how I could help my body stop attacking itself. My curiosity lead me to many places.
Not long after being diagnosed, I discovered Isabella Wentz, who was able to reverse her own Hashimoto’s prognosis and then become an expert on the disease. Through working with her one-on-one, reading her book and taking her digital course, I was able to advocate for the proper tests with my medical doctor to slowly uncover the root cause of my disease. I believe the trigger to my disease was a hormonal shift caused by taking birth control pills for the first time, right around when I had just started my career and my nervous system was re-calibrating to the shock of corporate life.
Medication never provided me with the relief I sought from the unmanageable symptoms of brain fog, inflammation and general malaise. So I decided to seek further care with a naturopath and was able to make significant improvement in the way I felt by curing leaky gut syndrome, changing my diet, supporting detoxification pathways with supplements and avoiding endocrine disrupters (hello to unscented, natural deodorant and goodbye to fluoride at the dentist and in my drinking water). It’s been 15 years since I’ve been gluten and dairy free and I’ve never felt better. I’ve slowly been able to reduce the dosage of my prescription medication and secretly can’t wait for the day my labs come back showing my thyroid antibodies in remission. Yes, I really think our bodies are that powerful.
My personal experience has solidified my belief in the importance of owning and advocating for our own health. It’s hard work but I will never give that responsibility away. Medical degrees and science do not scare me from following my curiosity about my own body and what works best for me.

That explains my transition over to clean beauty and home products. Aside from finding replacements for a few products, I’m about 95% of the way there. In today’s modern world, the amount of toxins in our products puts stress on our endocrine systems to detoxify properly. Then when you add in things like mental stress, vaccines, prescription medications, inflammation and poor diets, the physical body can’t keep up and things like autoimmune diseases can more easily get triggered!
Did you know that the United States has not passed a law on the cosmetic industry since 1938? In the United States, there are only 30 ingredients that are restricted in personal care products compared to 1,800 that have been banned in the European Union! I know, crazy.
My journey has inspired me to become a Beautycounter consultant. If you haven’t heard of them yet, their skincare and make-up lines are safer than most products on the market. They have banned more than 1,500 ingredients in their products. You can shop their full collection here, just note me as your consultant at checkout!
I’ve been using Beautycounter skincare and make-up products for a few years now and absolutely love them. Not only is the packaging aesthetically pleasing but they also work wonders too! Throughout this this post, I’ve rounded-up a few of my tried and true favorites along with a handful of other clean products that I use regularly.
