8 Fall Outfits & The Beauty Of Having Range
I’ve been thinking a lot lately about what makes a great wardrobe. How do you know if something is worth buying?
I think so much of it comes down to imagining how you’d actually wear it, and what you already have to work with.
As I started pulling these looks together, I found myself organizing them around how I often spend my days: casual weekends, working from home, days out in the world, and evenings out on the town. It reminded me just how helpful lifestyle can be as a filter for what belongs in our wardrobes.
What I loved discovering along the way was just how much range there is in my style! Some days I want sporty classics and comfortable layers. Others call for rich color, romantic prints, or something a little more graphic and funky. The great news is, there’s room for all of it!
Hopefully these spark a few ideas for getting dressed this fall…
Casual Weekends: Sporty & Preppy
Outfit one: Stripe Cardigan, Stripe Sweater, Leopard Belt, Corduroys, Sneakers, Vintage Necklace, Vintage Bag, Lipgloss
Outfit two: Rugby Polo, Corduroys, Bag, Bandana Pants, Moccasins, Sneakers, Jacket, Vintage Necklace, Lipgloss
Weekends are all about comfort and ease for me. Lately, that’s meant wandering around the city, going to the farmers market on Sundays, running errands, or antiquing. A jacket with front pockets (like this or this) sure comes in handy for all of the above!
This is usually when I’m feeling sporty and preppy. I want getting dressed to feel effortless, with maximum comfort, but I still like to feel pulled together! Rich colors, contrast stripes, and playful prints add a little personality.
I’ve been thinking about what this means for The Vintage Shop, too, and have been working on curating more easy-to-wear gold necklaces and earrings, along with sportier, functional bags—from belt bags (I like this one) and crossbodies (do we like something like this?) to everyday totes (obsessed with this). More to come!
Working From Home: Colorful & Classic
Outfit one: Jeans, Stripe Top, Sweater, Chanel Tote, Hermès Scarf, Loafers, Prada Belt, Hand Cream, Vintage Necklace, Eyeshadow
Outfit two: Blush, Polo, Jacket, YSL Scarf, Bottega Bag, Vintage Earrings, Flats, Corduroys
My days working from home are spent on creative projects like this, client calls, photographing new arrivals, and packing orders for the shop. I like to feel comfortable but still put together, especially when I’m hopping on calls or filming content!
This is where my style tends to go in two different directions: classic and understated or playful and colorful. Either way, I’m usually reaching for great knits and roomier silhouettes. I really love how an unexpected color combination can make comfortable basics feel more exciting!
I’ve also been thinking about the importance of having a really great everyday bag. The kind you can grab on your way out for a quick errand that goes with just about everything. For me, I count on my Louis Vuitton MM Neverfull, Chanel XL and Hermès 36 Garden Party!
Days Out In The World: Artful & Expressive
Outfit one: Sweater, Taffeta Pants (lower price option here), Jacket, Blue Flats, Tiger Flats, Vintage Chanel Mini, Vintage Chanel Beads, Eyeshadow
Outfit two: Vintage Chanel Earrings, Vintage Necklace, Maxi Skirt, Floral Blazer, Maxi Dress, Eyeshadow, Lipgloss, Vintage Chanel Bag, Boots
Days out in the world usually mean a coffee or lunch date, attending an event, giving a talk or workshop, or going on a solo artist date to a museum or something! These are the days I want to feel a little more dressed up, but still comfortable enough for all the walking that usually comes with them!
This is where I let my style get a little more artful and expressive. I love the ease of a maxi dress or skirt layered up with accessories. And sometimes all you need is a statement jacket (I’m drooling over this) to feel elevated.
I especially love a more distinctive bag and jewelry for these occasions too! They’re usually what make the whole look feel really unique.
Evenings On The Town: Old World Romance & Graphic Edge
Outfit one: Vintage Necklace, Cream Top, Ruffle Top, Jeans, Blazer, LV Bag, Vintage Chanel Scarf, Heels, Perfume, Lipgloss,
Outfit two: Eyeshadow, Lipgloss, Tank, Jacket, Turtleneck, Belt, Chanel Earrings, Boots, Perfume, YSL Bag, Jeans
Evenings out on the town can mean anything from dinner with friends or a date night to a concert or a fun event around the city. Depending on where I’m going and how I’m feeling, I tend to gravitate towards two very different directions!
One is old-world romantic (this jacket is really speaking to me), with beautiful silk blouses and feminine details. The other is more graphic and edgy, with black leather, playful prints, and a little extra attitude. Either way, I love mixing dressier pieces with denim to keep things feeling grounded.
This is where I have the most fun with vintage accessories! A special evening bag (another category I’m got my eye on for the shop), a little sparkle from vintage Chanel earrings, or bold gold jewelry to make jeans and a blouse feel ready for a night out. Oh and, a saturated lip and warm scent (can’t wait to try this new Vanilla Bouclé from my friend’s company)!
Putting these together was such a good reminder that personal style looks different every day. There really is room for all the different sides of ourselves to shine through!
