15 Fall Staples

I like to start each season with a rolling rack in my bedroom, filled with the staples and fashion pieces already in my closet. This season, it’s bursting with corduroy, darker floral prints, jewel tones, leopard, and dark denim.

Over the past few years, I’ve slowly invested in quality staples- many of which I wear year-round here in San Francisco. Now I’m making a wish list of items I’d love to add, prioritizing what will refresh what I already own.

Below are the 15 tried and true fall staples that will carry me through the season. You’ll notice that when it comes to classics, I lean toward whites, blues, and blacks over browns, tans, and creams. Someday I’d love to have it all, but for now, keeping the capsule focused has been really helpful.

  1. Citizen’s Of Humanity Charlotte Jeans– starting with my most worn pair of straight jeans. The inseam is perfect with boots, which is key this time of year.

  2. Agolde Ren Jeans– I purchased these darker washed jeans last winter because I love the fit. This wash is my go-to.

  3. Margaux Demi Flats in black– my most worn (and collected shoe)! It’s not on my priority list but at some point I will invest in a navy & chocolate brown pair.

  4. Gap Sweatpants– they’re not too bulky and look great with an oversized stripe top or casual button down.

  5. Steve Madden Boots- I have a suede pair of flat Margaux boots that I love but just purchased this pair to have a leather option. I didn’t want to spend a fortune.

  6. Jenni Kayne Flynn Sweater– really love the drapey fit of this one (I struggle with long and bulky sweaters on my smaller frame) and I’m saving up for the grey and camel. I have the black in XS.

  7. Jenni Kayne Cashmere Fisherman– I’m going on three years now wearing this classic and cozy sweater year round. I have both the ivory and grey in XS.

  8. Jenni Kayne Cashmere 1/2 Zip– can’t say I own this yet but I’m patiently waiting for the grey to come back in stock. I have the cable version and wear it constantly.

  9. Ayr Deep End Oxford Top– such a closet staple in blue and it pairs perfectly with black accessories and boots. I have the XS – it’s such a good oversized silhouette.

  10. Ayr Deep End Denim Top– this is the same fit as the Oxford. It just came back in stock with one design update to note- it has snaps now instead of buttons.

  11. Ayr Early Morning Top– my sister has this top and I love the oversized fit on her so I just pulled the trigger on a the navy stripe, I also love the black stripe.

  12. Gap Big Shirt in White Poplin– I’ve been waiting for this to come back in stock and it recently did- and on sale too! Also, love it in the green stripe.

  13. Aritzia Quilted Jacket– I discovered this in store last spring and omg, the drape. I’ve tried so many quilted styles over the years and find they tend to lean stiff.

  14. Barbour Barn Jacket– I have a J.crew waxed barn jacket that will suit the season for now but at some point, I want to invest in a Barbour one either new or used.

  15. H&M Fleece Jacket– okay this literally got delivered as I was writing this and I’m obsessed! It’s going to be great for buzzing around SF. I got the XS.

While classic and comfy pieces are at the core of my style, I love to make them feel personal and come alive with accessories. I pulled a mix of the new and vintage pieces I’ve been eying.

  1. Etro Paisley Scarf– known for their paisley prints, the colors of this one are so good. It’s a large size too- so lots of styling versatility.

  2. Chanel Tweed Scarf– I’ve had this one hearted for awhile now, can’t believe it hasn’t sold. I love the vibrancy of the colors rooted in black and white.

  3. Bottega Bag– this top handle style is so cute, I’d never seen it before. I love the slouchy flap too, it feels really playful.

  4. Fendi Bag– I love a mustard yellow color pop for a bag, so much so that I have a little Tod’s Micro mini in this color that I use all the time.

  5. Polo Braided Belt– this reminds me of the 90s trend that’s feeling so nostalgic this season.

  6. Givenchy Heart Earrings– love the mixed metal finishes here, making these little studs so versatile.

  7. Chanel Pendant Necklace– love the extra long length of this pendant. If you zoom in- the texture on the pendant feels so rich.

  8. J.Crew Corded Necklace– I want to try a short corded style and think this one is a good starting point! Not too bulky and a great price.

  9. Lelet Red Beaded Necklace– I love wearing beaded necklaces so much. I think a red one would get a lot of wear- just like my turquoise ones do.

  10. Chanel Rhinestone Studs– these were a last minute find! Rare with the black enamel and pierced too. Bling, bling season is upon us!

  11. Chanel Bag– love the edgier Chanel bag styles from the early 2000s known for having silver hardware like this.

  12. Chanel Flats– magenta is always a fave color this time of year. If you’re a size 37.5, maybe these are meant for you!

  13. Rag & Bone Leopard Belt– okay, I’ve been eyeing this belt in white and snagged it because it’s on sale. Now I want the leopard one! Feels like one you’d wear a lot.

Building a collection you love takes years and thoughtful attention. My advice: enjoy the process, play with what you already have, and treat yourself to a few new pieces each season—ones you can build from and that truly spark joy.
