Skirts & Pants Review

Basically this combined category is about any bottom that isn’t denim. Because I wear denim so much, it deserves it’s very own post and will be coming up next!

In total, I own 17 pants and 10 skirts. I’d say this is actually a pretty balanced collection within the sub-categories listed below. Although, again I see my preferences of buying special, unique things take precedence over more wearable basics. A theme I’m working on course correcting in my closet all overall.

PANTS

1. Spr/Sum

I own a total of 9 pant options that scream warm weather. These are a mix of light weight printed and linen pants. This year I tracked down these funky striped pants from Mango and they’ve been a fun option to wear with an easy tank and sweater. Would love to find a floral pair (or 2) sometime soon! I always keep my eye out for printed options (and sets!) that feel special. I also expanded my linen options this year with a few pleated pairs from the Gap. I’ve had a pair of linen pants that have a tie at the waist from J.crew that I wear all the time but it’s nice to have some options.

2. Fall/ Winter

I own a total of 8 pant options that are a bit heavier for colder months. Think corduroy, velour and thicker wovens like the red pants I’m wearing below, old from J.Crew.

If a casual item is offered as a set, I’ve found it so helpful to purchase both the top and bottom, like the sweater set I’m wearing below which is still available, here’s the top and bottom link. I really would love a pair of satin pants for the holidays so I finally pulled the trigger on this pair that I’ve been eyeing. Will be so pretty with sweaters! On my dream wishlist is a pair of striped Missoni pants sometime too.

SKIRTS

1. Mini

This is kinda funny as a category because I only own one. I actually love the idea of minis but I find I don’t wear them and end up donating them rather quickly. They just aren’t as practical as I would prefer a bottom to be! The one I do have is a little 60’s inspired mini from Zara which I love but haven’t worn since this photo was taken in 2020! She might have to go at some point.

2. Midi

By far my favorite skirt category! Big fan of the elastic waist, straight midi style which accounts for all 7 midi skirts I own. I wish I had more casual options though. Somehow I have more shiny satin options than I need! There was a time that I wanted every color of this type of style, haha. Always have my eye out for cute prints in this type of style because it’s so easy with a basic tank and cool sneakers. Also such a good one for San Francisco summers because they can be easily styled with a sweater or denim jacket.

I think it could be worth it to try a sweater skirt sometime soon. Rails had a cute option last year and I see a set at Ref that I’m eyeing!

3. Maxi

Need more maxis in my closet! These are the only two that I own. You can tell that I like a slimmer fit around the waist and thighs in all skirt sub-categories. Otherwise, since I’m a curvy 5’3″, too much material can look overwhelming on me. The reason I don’t own more maxis is truly because it’s hard to find one that looks good on my body! I’d love to find some floral printed one’s that feel more fall like in color as well as a white casual one for next spr/sum.

Did you notice I didn’t mention anything about shorts? That’s because I literally don’t own any except a pair of denim! I really need to work on that next year. I always say that and then so easily sneak by another season without them. If I lived somewhere warmer I certainly would have a few pairs of linen and cute printed options to pull from. I did have a tweed pair that I recently donated because they were too small! Life is too short for tight clothes.
