On a chilly fall morning last year I found this beautiful antique oak dresser at the Alameda Antique Faire, just outside of San Francisco. If you’re local and haven’t been, you have to check it out! It’s the first Sunday of every month. I usually get there right when the sun rises to beat the crowds and find the gems. ⁣
⁣
I’d been wanting an antique oak dresser for a few months before I manifested this one! This is by far the most feminine one I’ve ever come across antiquing. I mean, look at the scalloped edges, original hardware, and oval shaped mirror. The finish is in nice condition too, there’s only a few scratches on the top but I always welcome a little character. Perfection in my opinion!⁣

However, it was a total gamble because when I spotted it, the dresser and mirror were separate pieces so I had to use my imagination quite a bit to gauge if it would work in my bedroom. But I always go with the thinking that if it doesn’t work and I don’t love it, I can always flip it on Facebook Marketplace. So the stakes were low and my gut said yes. ⁣

Thankfully the vendor helped me load it into my car for me. When I got back to my city apartment, I had to call my best guy friend to help me unload. He was up for it, in return for a drink! When you find something that’s meant to be, the logistics always seem to fall right into place.⁣

After putting it together and shining it up, I loved it more than I thought I would. She’s the perfect size for my space and also shockingly functional. The bottom drawers are wide and deep, plus I like the two smaller drawers for my socks and underwear. I previously had a higher dresser in the space and I never liked that I couldn’t see my jewelry collection on the top. ⁣

Since I’ve been inspired to spruce up and evolve my style recently, I re-styled her a few weekends ago. It had been on my list to narrow down the jewelry on display to only the pieces I wear regularly and then store the rest in my closet. I love these West Elm boxes for jewelry storage and display. I like that it cleared up space for a big beautiful vase on top. This one is a vintage find too, it’s Waterford Crystal! ✨

This is a 40th and 41st birthday ode to @everydayeryn, who I have the pleasure of labeling my best friend. We’ve sure spent a lot of birthday’s together with reverence for the unfolding of life exactly as it is. ⁣
⁣
Maybe it’s because Craigslist brought us together as roommates 15 years ago that we share such an awe for the mystical workings in the world. Her dignity and presence make my sensitive soul feel secure in the reality of life, which includes all things and some of which, if I had my choice, I’d rather avoid. ⁣
⁣
Joy and sadness. Play and rest. Indulgence and moderation. Expansion and contraction. Fear and love. Doubt and certainty. ⁣Avoidance and intimacy. Simplicity and luxury.
⁣
It’s probably also her honesty that helps me feel grounded too. I appreciate openness and truth talking (even when it stings) because it helps me better understand myself and others. Her ability to get to the root of things always is such a gift I did not see coming and has helped evolve my consciousness to be able to hold more truths at once. What else do we really need from dear friendship?

While we lived in the same city for most of our 30s, and it’s been hard for me to admit how much I miss her in SF, distance does this magical thing of giving us the perspective to see how lucky we are to journey alongside our people no matter the location. ⁣
⁣
I don’t know where I’d be without Eryn sharing her passions with me (especially in the spiritual and natural health realms) and making the next decade look so gentle and welcoming. This year I’m filing away her novel birthday idea, to pick 12 cards from an oracle deck on your special day to set as themes for each new moon of the coming year. So in true Eryn style, I’m honoring her generosity by passing along the inspiring idea to the rest of us believers out there 💫🥳

Here’s to reclaiming a part of myself I’d forgotten about, my early adult self. The main feeling I have towards her is disgust by how much she used to care about how she looked, the amount of alcohol she drank (which made her so puffy & ill) and how hard she tried to lead the pack. All this to mask how sensitive she actually is to her environments.⁣
⁣
Until I sat in the mirror staring at myself for a color analysis with the talented @wear_your_signature, I had no compassion for this younger part of myself. Through the drapes exercise, I learned that the bold colors that look best on me are the exact colors I used to love wearing at that stage of my life and have completely abandoned. I wasn’t prepared for what a gift this vulnerable experience would be to help remind me of the wonderful qualities about this version of myself. Like how much I appreciate my strong style instinct and conviction around the vision for my life. ⁣
⁣
With Alex’s gentle presence and praise, I owned the season I did not want to be, Winter. No longer is black, jewel tones, neons and icy pastels a thing of the past as I work towards bringing that bold, intuitive part of myself back to life. I’m excited to integrate her with my creative, feminine side as she’s been stealing the airtime as of late. ⁣

This one is for my girl, Jill. I’m going to take her shopping this weekend to pick out something new in one of her favorite colors 🌈
