Off To Buffalo

After some much-needed girlfriend and sister time in the Hudson Valley, I’m making my way across the state to my hometown of Fredonia, New York. There’s no place I’d rather spend my birthday than with my family, sitting on the deck soaking up a warm summer evening!

Since this is such a long trip, I approached packing with two distinct themes in mind, while making sure there are plenty of pieces that could mix and match along the way.

I’ll be moving from the relaxed, feminine mood of the Hudson Valley into something that feels a little more Americana for the holiday weekend. Think more denim, and more color, while staying rooted in the basics: linen bottoms, beaded necklaces, ribbed tanks, and strappy sandals.

Different destination, same summer state of mind!

CLOTHING

  • Dresses- I love treating myself to a special dress for my birthday every year. Last year’s was a blue floral beauty, and this year’s is by the same designer, Carolina K found on The Real Real. The craftsmanship is incredible, and I fell for the patchwork of colorful prints. It’s joyful, vibrant, and I can’t wait to wear it. I’m also packing a denim shift dress that’s perfect with layered necklaces, along with a couple of easy linen swing dresses for warm summer days.
  • Tops- I always count on my chambray button down this time of year. And I recently picked up this gingham top I’ve been eyeing for months. It’s such a classic, and I love that it can be worn buttoned up or more casually open depending on the occasion.
  • Tanks- A red sweater tank similar to this one is coming along for a little patriotic color. Also a swingy white tank goes a long way.
  • Sweaters- I’m tossing in a bright yellow cotton sweater for a splash of color, like this one.
  • Bottoms- My trusty linen pants will be the star of the trip, along with my favorite denim shorts. Also excited to wear a bright floral pair of Farm Rio shorts from last summer (similar vibes here and here). They’re playful, colorful, and perfect for a holiday weekend.
  • Swim- My favorite solid bikini paired with any linen layers is all I’ll really need for pool days.

ACCESSORIES

  • Scarves- I’ll have a couple of floral vintage scarves similar to this one. They’re one of my favorite ways to add personality to a simple tank.
  • Bags-  I love how the mini Tod’s bag will add a bit of polish to any of these otherwise relaxed outfits. I’ll also have my Damier Azur Louis Vuitton tote with me—which is so on point this time of year with its nautical summer vibe.
  • Sandals- These brown and black strappy sandals are my summer go-tos.
  • Earrings- A mix of vintage gold studs and hoops will help pull everything together. Perfect time for a pair of shell earrings!
  • Necklaces– I’ll play around with layering up colorful vintage strands throughout the trip.
  • Sunglasses- I’m bringing one pair with a little more personality and another classic option depending on the outfit and mood.

If the Hudson Valley suitcase was all soft romance and antique-hunting charm, this one feels like small town summer nostalgia: family gatherings on the deck, fireworks in the distance, lake breezes, warm summer nights, and not a care in the world for a couple days. Honestly, I can’t wait!
