The Ease of Turquoise
Turquoise always pulls me in this time of year as a quintessential summer color. It reminds me of the clearest tropical blue water—the kind that feels almost unreal. It has a lot of energy to it, yet in a calming way. Vibrant and fluid at the same time.
When I found a beautiful vintage Pucci tote in shades of turquoise, it ended up inspiring the entire direction of The Vintage Shop re-launch. As I kept sourcing, I noticed I was drawn to turquoise again and again—in scarves, bags, and jewelry. Not surprisingly, many of those pieces were the first to sell. More to come, I promise!
On its own, turquoise can be tricky. It can tip into fantasy quickly—beautiful for vacation, but not always for day to day life. So I started wondering: how do we bring the richness of this color into life in a wearable way?
I love turquoise most when it feels grounded: earthy, relaxed, a little imperfect. For me, a little goes a long way.
How I’d wear turquoise:
As an accent → mixed into gorgeous prints or stripes
In natural materials → stones, straw, silk, canvas, raffia
With contrast → black, white, earthy browns, olive, or saturated color pairings
In softer or deeper tones → turquoise with depth always feels most wearable to me
I’m usually more drawn to turquoise in pieces like a necklace, scarf, bag, or woven sandal than a full dress or sweater. I admire those pieces more than I’d actually wear them.
Color combos I like turquoise with:
Primary orange, pink, & green → unexpected and a little electric
Earth tones (brown, olive) → grounding and relaxed
Soft pastels → lighter, softer, more dreamy
With black or white → instantly sharper and less overly beachy
It’s no wonder turquoise is associated with water. It feels alive, calming, and clear all at once—which is probably why I’m always pulled toward it as a Cancer sun.
I have a deep turquoise beaded necklace I wear year-round, and pulling this together made me appreciate it even more!
