Go-to Staples
Over the past couple of years, I’ve been focused on investing into timeless basics, like Jenni Kayne sweaters, J.crew Cashmere and jeans (more on my favorite pairs here). I found that my closet was bursting with colors, patterns and trendier silhouettes but I was missing that easy canvas for every day wear. Looking back at some of the outfit photos I’ve taken over the past couple years, I can see a bit more quirk in my style than I really feel inside. I want my looks to feel more effortless while also still special. Special to me means distinctive and tasteful, not so much unique and unusual. Now that I have a plethora of favorite go-tos that I reach for often, I’m desiring to keep my closet simple and invest in accessories to personalize them. Time to up my accessories game (the one’s in my personal collection that is)!
Here are the eight go-to’s I find myself reaching for over and over again.
1. Jenni Kayne Cashmere Cocoon Cardi
I originally invested in the grey color of this cashmere cocoon sweater and then after realizing how much wear I got out of it, decided to add the ivory to my collection. I love the tan buttons. And also it’s soooo soft. A sweater I often drape over my office chair to pop on and off during the work days. It runs really oversized so I’m wearing a size XXS in the cardigan. They also have a shorter version that I’d probably love even more, too bad it was out of stock when I bought this one!
2. J.Crew White Poplin Top
I’ve had this white button down in my closet for over three years now. It’s a lightweight poplin and super oversized which I love, I even sized up to a 4. It’s crisp and casual. Looks great tucked in with a belt and has the best neckline for a big chunky gold statement necklace, like this one here. In general I love J.crew button downs and am planning to add some fresh stripes to my closet for spring!
3. Jenni Kayne Cashmere Fisherman Sweater
This is the cashmere fisherman sweater in heather grey. I bought this at the same time as the ivory because they were 20% off at the time and I couldn’t decide between the colors. I used to have a cotton fisherman from the Gap that I wore to shreds so I didn’t have to think twice about the opportunity to invest in this one. Heather grey is especially sharp with black and white accessories. I also love wear it with blue toned scarves. I’m wearing the size XS here and it’s still roomy.
4. J.Crew Cashmere Crew Sweater
This is the J.Crew cashmere crew sweater that comes in 20 colors! It’s lighter weight than the Jenni Kayne fisherman and much more affordable with no compromise in quality. I’ve had this one for four years now and don’t even think I’ve ever had to shave the pills off of it yet! I also have it in ivory and plan to grab a few bright colors for spring and summer since we wear sweaters year round in San Francisco. This is the size small but honestly next time I will size down because I like to wear these tucked in for a more fitted look.
5. AYR Stripe French Fry Tee
I love the fit of this boxy, drop shoulder tee, I’m wearing a size extra small. I think black and white stripes are such a good canvas for rich brown bags like vintage Louis Vuitton. You also can’t beat some print mixing with a black grounded scarf, I always have a few available for sale in my collection!
6. Uniqlo White Tee
I discovered the perfect white tee on Julia Amory’s Tictok. I absolutely love following her for personal style inspiration. This is a $15 Uniqlo tee shirt and it feels so so luxe. It’s a bit thicker material therefore lending it to have a more structured and polished fit. I’m wearing a size small and also have it in black!
7. J.Crew Cashmere Tee
As you know, I love J.Crew cashmere! This is the short sleeved version in the crew neck and I actually got an extra small in this one. I love the navy but it also comes in tan, ivory and black. I know it’s not for everyone but I gravitate towards wearing blue with blue and also you can’t go wrong with a navy and white combo. I also think navy looks great with colors, both pastels and brights, I want to try styling it with fun belts, scarves and bags this spring/summer.
8. AYR Chambray Button Down
Finding the perfect chambray top can be tough. I love that this AYR one is casual yet still a bit feminine with a clean wash and the classic white buttons. I’m wearing the extra small and it still has a roomy and relaxed fit. They also have a slightly darker wash which is great for fall/winter. I have this exact fit in the oxford too and wear it all the time.
