Silk Scarf Styling

Silk scarf styling inspiration

When I shop for scarves for both my personal and JB vintage collections, I rarely search for specific prints. I just follow where my intuition takes me.

What I’ve realized with that process is that I then struggle with how to tell you why I chose what I chose! So my goal is to put a bit more intention behind what I present. Today I decided to gather all of my favorite silk scarf styled images I’ve snapped over the past year and dump them onto a blank photoshop canvas. I stared at it in silence and started to notice the themes and patterns I tend to gravitate towards on repeat.

Below you’ll see the four themes I tend to work variations off. If a scarf is a bold color or has a lot of black in the print, I like to pair it with some sort of black knit top for a strong look. If I’m feeling like going for a more polished and feminine vibe, I like to wear more muted colors and blend what I’m wearing in with the scarf. When I want to personalize an otherwise basic look, I pull out a bright all over print. On the days I’m feeling punchy, I like to push the edges of my style and play with prints.

I have some fresh ideas bookmarked on Pinterest to try out this year too. I’d love to experiment with more print mixing, clearly I’ve got the stripes thing down, as well as match scarves back to colored tops and sweaters. I also think it could be fun to experiment with more texture in my tops, I could see pairing a scarf with eyelet, blazers and cable sweaters.

You’ve probably also noticed that I tend to wear my scarves one of two ways, either draped around my shoulders or half folded and tied around my neck. While there’s a million different scarf tutorials out there, I just find these two ways to be the most simple and practical for actually wearing it all day, even if you’re working from home! I do also like tying your favorite one on a bag in a bow, that’s one trick I will pull out again soon.

I hope this is helpful! I know it was for me. Not only do I have some fresh styling ideas for the future but I also have a better understanding of why I like certain prints (the scale, colors, layout, etc) and a few things I want to try, like adding in some punchy Pucci geos options as well as a few traditional equestrian prints which tend to be more neutral in color.
