Summer Punch List
Let me start by saying- this is a long one! For when you’re in the mood for inspiration.
Every season I find myself craving a little more clarity about my closet. So I made a summer punch list: a category-by-category breakdown that helped me sketch out the closet of my dreams. And in doing so, I’ve created a lens through which to spot pieces that fit my body, my style and my life for the next few months.
This isn’t about trends or shopping sprees. It’s about curating and collecting. About knowing what’s enough, what can wait and what already works. And for context, I’m writing this from San Francisco, where summer is windy and foggy. I have three warm-weather getaways this season so I’ve included heat-friendly picks too.
Here’s my summer vision—I hope it inspires you to imagine a wardrobe that works for your own rhythm and season.
JACKETS & BLAZERS
Blazer Like Jackets- I’ve been craving a lighter, cropped jacket that still works for San Francisco’s windy nights. I rotate between an old Zara trench and my Levi’s white denim jacket but I’m really wanting to find another structured but not stuffy option.
Denim Jackets- I have both a blue and white 90s Levi’s trucker, and they’ve held up beautifully since my early S&S days. These are the jackets I reach for when I want to feel instantly cool and pulled-together. The white is often sold out, so if it comes back—grab it.
Twill Jackets- I have an old light stone twill army jacket from H&M that I love. It’s long, loaded with pockets, and perfect for throwing on over workout clothes en route to Pilates or weekend errands. If you like the utility vibe but want something with a pop, I think this pink version is such a fun twist.
Printed Quilted Jackets- I always have an eye on Zara for a great printed or quilted number—they tend to do them well—but I haven’t seen anything special recently. That said, I did scoop up this solid forest green one that has the BEST drape. It also comes in white and will transition beautifully into fall.
White Blazer- This one is my go-to for summer nights when I want to dress up a little black tank or throw something over a slip dress. Clean, fresh, and under $50—so I don’t worry about wearing it out. I also have it in black!
DRESSES
Easy Dresses- When it comes to everyday dresses, I’m drawn to pieces with a sporty sensibility. These are the ones I throw on with a pair of sneakers or chunky sandals and feel instantly pulled together. I just picked up this ribbed maxi and the fit is so good- not too tight at all. I also love a breezy linen swing dress; a few years back, J.Crew made a v-neck version I loved so much I had it hemmed just right. Still one of my favorites.
Easy Strappy Maxis- This is a category I’d love to build out more—I’m still on the hunt for the perfect easy black and white versions. I do love this option because of the soft neckline, and I already own this one, which is super flattering—but it doesn’t have a slit, so it’s more for those look cute and chill kind of days than true all-day wear.
Colorful Statement Dresses- Living in San Francisco, maxi dresses make so much sense—especially when you can layer them under a blazer, sweater, or jacket. I like having a mix of solid and printed options that feel joyful and versatile, like this beautiful jewel tone or this floral one. I’ll throw in a fun mini every now and then, but maxis are my go-to. How stunning is this blue Greek inspired one? This one is pretty special too, the print has little pink shells!
KNIT TOPS
Fun Scoop Tanks- I’m a sucker for a good scoop neck—especially in a bold stripe or knit. I always keep an eye out for secondhand gems on The RealReal especially by Zimmerman or Missoni.
Special Solid Tanks- Reformation is my go-to for knit tops that feel elevated but easy. I own this one, and also last year’s version of this one shoulder tank—they hold their shape and feel special without trying too hard.
Sporty Ribbed Tanks- This is my summer MVP. Fitted but not tight, flattering with basically every bottom I own. I have it in four colors and find myself reaching for one almost daily.
Square Neck Tanks- Is there such a thing as a soft square neckline? That’s what I’m always hunting for. This one is hands-down my favorite—it hits that sweet spot of structure and ease. Sometimes it’s in stock in white or black (I also own the red!).
Casual T-shirts- This one has a slightly boxy cut that I love with denim shorts or loose linen pants. Heather grey is my neutral of choice—the tone on this one is just right.
Dressier T-shirts- Not sure this is a real category, but this $10 tee kind of nails it. It’s thicker, more structured, and just polished enough for when you want to look a little more intentional.
Graphic Tees- Not usually my thing—but this zodiac series is so hip. Would be really cool with striped or printed pants. A nice way to add some edge without going full streetwear.
WOVEN TOPS
Breezy White Tops- I like something with a little boho or sporty energy—this one looks amazing on everyone I’ve seen it on so it’s 100% worth the price. Also cute in a ditzy print or with embroidery. Ideal for pairing with denim shorts, lightweight linen/poplin pants, or wide-leg jeans.
Breezy White Tanks- These are summer staples I wear on repeat—with wide-leg jeans, flowy pants, or under a cozy cardigan. I recently picked up this one and this one and the fits are so flattering. Clean, airy, and just structured enough to feel intentional.
Pretty Statement Tops & Tanks- For work-from-home days where I want a little something extra—pattern, print, or color. I like them best when they’re comfortable but still carry a playful or polished detail. I just snagged this pink and red one on super sale! Also love the vibe of something unexpected like this and classic like this gingham number.
Oversized Stripe Poplin Top- This oversized top is hands-down my favorite. It’s perfect with lounge pants or worn open over a tank and shorts. Fingers crossed they restock the white version for fall—it’s just so versatile. Also has matching shorts.
Chambray Top- A true closet staple. I’ve had mine for years and still reach for it constantly. Great with white jeans, linen trousers, or layered open like a light jacket. Lately I’ve been wearing it unbuttoned over tanks and I love the relaxed feel. Just noticed they updated the style to have snaps instead of buttons.
Going Out Tops- This category is always trickier than it seems. I’m always looking for something that feels fresh, flattering, and can layer well under a blazer or jacket. I recently scooped up this crinkle top and it totally hits the spot—great for a night out or date without being too much. This structured tie top is also a great option dressed up or down.
SWEATERS
Navy Stripe Sweater- I’m honestly surprised there aren’t more great options out there right now—this feels like such a closet staple. I’m eyeing this one which looks like a slightly heavier weight, but I’d also love to find a lighter-weight version to rotate in.
Cream Cable Sweater- This item makes me think of nostalgic East Coast summers. The half-zip I own has been a go-to for years. It’s perfectly relaxed, timeless, and still feels fresh every time I pull it out.
Crochet Sweaters- This is an open category in my closet right now- I love the idea of adding more crochet for summer. It’s such a beautiful way to bring texture into a season that’s otherwise full of smooth, simple fabrics. This one is cool!
Lightweight Cashmere Sweaters- These are a quiet foundation in my closet. I like having a set of neutrals—navy, black, ivory, and grey—in both v-neck (this is the one I have) and crew neck styles (I want to try this one next). It’s a slow build, but I’m about halfway there. Lightweight cashmere adds just enough warmth for foggy days without feeling heavy or bulky. A pastel option here and there is nice too.
Colorful Textured Sweaters- When I reach for a bright color, I want it to have texture or detail—otherwise it tends to fall flat. I love a pop of something unexpected, like a polo or a vibrant cardigan. My butter yellow version is sold out, but this punchy one is fun, and teal is feeling fresh to me this season.
SS Cashmere Sweaters- This silhouette always gets me. I have this one in navy and this one in grey, and they’re both so wearable year around.
Oversized Cardigans- No surprise here—I love reaching for both the long and short versions of this cashmere cocoon cardi depending on the outfit. Sometimes I even pull out my cable-knit version just for the texture. I was on the hunt for a fun summer statement cardi, but haven’t found anything quite right… yet.
BOTTOMS
Twill Pants- I just ordered this pair to try—looking for something lightweight and casual that I can wear with breezy tops or linen button-downs. I also love the idea of trying a stone color a some point to soften things up a bit.
Denim Shorts- Not a huge shorts gal, but this pair is hands down my favorite. Great fit, not too short, and somehow just works with a flowy top every time. Medium washes are my favorite here.
Linen Trouser Pants- This pleated wide-leg pair is my go-to for an easy yet elevated summer look. I love them with chunky sandals and a fitted tank tucked in—polished but breathable.
Elastic Waist Linen Pants- If you’re on the shorter side like me, this pair is magic. You’ve heard me mention them before—they fit so well, feel effortless, and pair with basically anything. The lighter colors are lined too. Also I have this stripe pair from the Gap.
Linen Shorts- I have an affordable H&M pair that’s served me well, but I’m tempted to try this version with a thinner waistband—it looks a little more refined while still being casual.
Printed Shorts- I’m always up for a good striped or printed short—this stripe pair is especially fun for summer. I went with this pair for what I’m calling this season’s special sauce.
Easy Lounge Shorts- This is an open spot in my closet. I’ve been eyeing this Varley pair—they look perfectly drapey and their shorts come in a range of lengths, which is such a plus. Anyone tried?
Light Wash Jeans- This wide-leg pair is my favorite right now. They go with everything and the fit is so flattering. You can see them in motion in this reel here in the medium wash.
Printed Pants- I’m in love with this funky embroidered pair—especially since it has a matching tank. Printed pants are always on my radar, though I did recently strike out on a paisley pair I adored. I wrote about why here if you’re curious. Someday I’ll splurge on a silk mosaic pair like these.
White Jeans- I’ve been eyeing a white pair of my favorite Agolde Rens—but since they’re not a high-priority item, I’m waiting to see if they go on sale. They’d be a nice closet addition, but not a need. I have a straighter leg pair that’s just fine.
White Maxi Skirt- I have to be careful with maxi skirts—they can easily feel frumpy on me—but this one has a great fit around the hips, is lined, and has that crisp, classic look I love. Super versatile with sweaters and fitted tanks.
Fun Maxi Skirt- This category is always on my mental wishlist. I still have a floral Reformation one I adore and wish they made in more prints. Dreaming of a bold striped version someday. How fun is this?
Casual Slip Skirt- I still wear my old Sanctuary slip skirts from my S&S days all the time. They’re so flattering and look great with sneakers. Who decided these are out? I’d like to have a word, lol.
SETS
Linen Set- I love a linen set that feels special—elevated but easy. I have an older J.Crew version with a tie-front tank and wide-leg pants that still gets compliments, years later. For something bolder, I recently scooped up a bright floral set for a beach vacation. I plan to rewear the shorts with a black tank while in Europe later this summer—so it already feels worth the splurge. This soft pastel stripe set caught my eye too!
Printed Set- I love a printed set that you can mix and match the top and bottom with jeans or a solid top. The colors and print of this one spoke to me!
Lightweight Cotton Set- These are the sets I reach for when I want to be comfy but still pulled together—perfect for travel days or lounging at home. I fell for this one in navy because it’s effortless and affordable, and I also have this lightweight sweater set bookmarked as great mix-and-match options for year round.
SWIM
Bikini- I’m not too fussy when it comes to bikinis—I know what works for me and stick to it. This underwire top and these full coverage bottoms have been my go-to (I mentioned it in my Cabo packing post), and it continues to hold up.
One Piece- All I want is a classic black one-piece with a scoop neckline—elegant, easy, and timeless. I’ve tried a bunch (including the ever-popular Hunza G), but I keep striking out when it comes to coverage around the behind. If you have a rec, I’m all ears.
Kaftan- I’d love to find a kaftan that feels special but doesn’t completely overwhelm me. So many are too oversized for my frame. This isn’t a need right now—just planting the seed and staying open for the right one to pop up.
BAGS
Raffia Tote- I picked up this one and love the subtle black stripes—it feels elevated but still easy. The material is packable (a must for travel), and the handle drop is just right, which is something I’m always paying attention to. It’s doubling as my carry-on this summer.
Canvas Tote- I’ve had an old J.Crew version for years and it’s still my go-to for beach days and park hangs. It’s structured enough to carry towels, snacks, and all the extras that come with summer in San Francisco—where a good picnic is practically a lifestyle.
Summer Work Tote- When the weather shifts, I love pulling out my Damier Azur Louis Vuitton tote in the navy and cream check. It’s crisp, classic, and somehow works with everything. It feels special and perfectly seasonal.
Fun Pop Bags- Next on my color wishlist: a bright blue bag. I’ve been eyeing this Prada one ever since a girlfriend got it—such a chic shape. This casual Tod’s option is cute too. I’m also dreaming of a raffia top-handle or clutch for summer dinners or weddings- love the idea of a black raffia top handle bag and simple clutch. But I’m holding out for something that’s a true love before making a move—especially for any luxury purchases. Never a rush on those.
Belt Bag- This $38 black belt bag has seen a lot of wear—it’s easy, practical, and great for weekend errands or travel. But I’ve been slowly scouring vintage for a more elevated version. Maybe a Dior or Louis Vuitton style from the early 2000s if the right one shows up. Manifesting it!
WORKOUT
Colorful Set- I’ve been dreaming of a teal workout set—something like running shorts and a matching sports bra. I’ve done a bit of browsing but haven’t found the right one yet. The fit on shorts is always a journey, but I’m open to the hunt if the perfect combo shows up.
Biker Shorts- I’m sure I’ll be back in these again a few times this summer, paired with oversized tees or breezy button-downs. I’m planning to spend a little time sourcing some fresh, cute workout and lounge options soon—because don’t we all have a few too many worn-out pieces stuffed in our drawers?
Sweatshirt- I’m on the lookout for one that’s super drapey, oversized, and feels lived-in right away. This one looks promising—the slightly faded tone makes it feel like something I’d reach for constantly. My sister has this top which would be great with biker or lounge shorts.
SHOES
Flip Flops- I considered trying a trendier pair this year but ultimately decided to stick with my Havaianas. They never give me blisters, they’re simple, and honestly—when a classic is a classic, why mess with it?
Colorful Sneakers- You’ve probably heard me rave about this pair already. I have the red/pink combo and think the green version would be just as versatile. These are made for walking—cute, practical, and full of personality. So many good colors right now!
Flat Dressy Sandals- I’m going soft gold here. They’ll be so pretty with dresses and light summer bottoms like linen trousers or a maxi skirt. They’ve been out of stock for a while, so this might be one of the next things I check off the punch list.
Flat Casual Sandals- For this category, I’m going black. I’ve had my eye on this strappy pair—they’re sold out at the moment, but I love how the design adds a bit of visual interest. This similar pair would be great with denim too.
Sporty Chunky Sandals- Still going strong on this style in year two. I wear this pair all the time, and I still love this pair too. They’re the perfect way to give an outfit a little bit of edge while staying comfy and grounded.
Going Out Sandals- This year, I’m into the idea of a red pop. This scalloped mesh pair and this thong version are both fun and unexpected. I’m also on the lookout for a raffia block heel that could go with both jeans and dresses—something textural but polished. This pair and this pair caught my attention. Also a simple black block heel always goes a long way.
Ballet Flats- I’m thinking about trading my classic solid pairs for something more textured—maybe raffia or mesh. Not a high priority right now, but it’s on my radar. This is my beloved style in leather so I have no doubt these would be amazing.
JEWELRY
Long Statement Necklace- I’ve been on the hunt for a colorful, beaded long necklace to wear with breezy dresses and lightweight sweaters—but haven’t found the one yet. Until then, I’m reaching for my classic ‘90s Chanel coin pendant. It always adds polish without trying too hard.
Short Beaded Necklaces- Still loving this trend, especially in bold colors or mixed textures. A few I’m into: this chunky turquoise one, this pink and red combo, and this turquoise pendant version. They add just the right amount of play to summer basics.
Beachy Statement Earrings- I’ve been taking a breather from big earrings, but I love the idea of incorporating subtle shell details—something beachy like this but not over the top. Shells were a vintage jewelry motif too, so I’ll probably do a little treasure hunt soon. Also a turquoise pair of ball studs are a must have.
Beaded Bracelet- Not typically a bracelet gal (haven’t been since the 2010s!), but I’m drawn to the idea of a slightly elevated beaded option like this one. It could be a fun way to dip back in without feeling over-accessorized.
Hoops- Always a staple. I keep a mix of sizes and finishes on hand—gold, silver, thick, thin. They’re easy, flattering, and work with everything.
Chunky Bangles- Not a must-have right now, but a fun addition for a beach trip. I love the idea of tossing a few on for a carefree summer look—textural, nostalgic, and just playful enough. This set is chic.
ACCESSORIES
Fun Sunnies- If you know me, you know sunnies tend to fall right off my face—Ray-Bans are usually the only ones that fit just right. But I couldn’t resist this pink pearlized pair for the season. A small update, but it goes a long way in making an outfit feel current and fresh.
Classic Sunnies– This sporty pair is my tried-and-true. Always reliable, works with everything, and they stay put.
Bright Silk Scarf- I love tying a bright silk scarf into my summer palette—either around my neck, on a bag, or in my hair. It looks amazing with a white tee or crisp black top, and this lime-accented one in particular is stunning.
Cashmere Throw- I’ve had Alice Walk on my radar for a while now, and this cashmere wrap would make such a beautiful gift (to yourself or someone else). I also love styling a vintage Chanel scarf as a wrap or layering piece—if you fall in love with the print, it’s always worth it for years to come.
Fun Belt- This category has been surprisingly tricky. I’m imagining something bright and playful for summer, but haven’t found the one—in either the new or vintage world—so I’m tabling it for now.
White Belt- This one is perfect. It strikes that balance of casual and polished, which makes it ideal for wearing with flowy tops or linen pants without feeling too stiff.
Baseball Hat- This is one of those categories where I like to have a range of colors to match my go-to casual palette. For me, that usually means something in the black and navy family—understated but still intentional. This is my go-to style.
Sun Hat- Someday I’d love to invest in a truly special woven hat—something that feels timeless and chic—but I’m still in research mode there. Until then, this oversized bucket hat does the trick. It packs easily and keeps the sun off my face when I need it most.
Hope you savored this as much as you do your own closet. I loved putting this together—so much so that I’m already dreaming up a fall version. Thanks for being here—and for seeing style as something more than trends or purchases. Here’s to closets that feel like us, one intentional piece at a time.
